so i feel i should get this off my chest considering the last post i did on here was in june and it's now december.
i've slowly been losing the drive to continue this site. granted, not as a permanent thing, but this site just seems to be a "side project" to me, since i don't seem to be placing heavy priority on it compared to other things offsite as of lately. combined with that and a case of writer's block for the things i've had drafted for months, it's pretty much slowed things to a halt. (and yeah, unfortunately this also means the Soul Nomad blind-ish playthrough for here is cancelled :( sorry, mates.)
but yeah, as far as things are concerned, the KKGS blogspot will be on indefinite hiatus until further notice. i may post info on other projects here from time to time, but otherwise the site will pretty much be inactive.
if you wanna keep in touch with me, i got a plethora of links available at my flavors hub.
as far as other projects i've been working on, one of them is a work-in-progress Disgaea lore wiki because of course i did.
also been setting up a gaming computer out of some old parts my brother gave me, so i might do some game video stuff at a later point. maybe streams or mods or something. we'll see.
anyhow, that's it for now. till then, stay cool, everyone.
love and luck to you all.

"soon (tm)" exists for a reason
so uh, first part of the Soul Nomad playthrough writeup is going a bit slow due to things i honestly didn't count on my end.
that being the steam summer sale and camera convenience.
probably gonna try to squeeze more content in the first part of the playthrough, but we'll see how it goes. compiling stuff from each couple of sessions in each part instead of writing as i go, for the sake of convenience. i'm still fairly early in the game, so there isn't a bevy of stuff to talk about outside of storystuff and my own thoughts.
but yeah, just bear with me a while longer. though, if you're one of the few longtime followers of the site, there's probably a good chance you already are. bless you so much for your patience. i'm trying my best. <3

dear Google/Blogger/Blogspot/whatever
far from me to call your staff being on par with how bad Twitter and especially Tumblr's site team seem to be but uh
if you guys haven't even made an attempt to even migitate this sort of traffic bloat then we might have a bit of a problem. and i don't think the switch to HTTPS or connecting my site Google Analytics even helped a little with solving this.
please fix this.
with love, gen ichida <3

a raincheck and makaipunkery
sometimes i keep asking myself why i continue to keep this blog up, considering updates on here just seem to be more and more sporadic. not to mention said updates don't seem to be very substantial since i am not a writing sort of guy and i make a lot of promises about writing about stuff that i don't follow up on.
well, as far as the first bit is concerned, i keep this site up because i like talking about the things i love and sharing them and my thoughts on them with other people. even if i don't keep this place as updated as much as i'd like to, i like talking about stuff i find interesting. and if someone likes the stuff i write or write about, then that makes the time invested all the more worth it. c:
as for the second bit of what i said, uh... yeah, i'm pretty sure i've said stuff on it in the past on here but i think it's plainly obvious i'm more of a visual kind of guy when it comes to creative stuff. i'm passionate about talking about stuff, but i'm not good at elaborating on my thoughts about things. said stuff about this sorta thing before whenever i talk about why i'm delaying on reviews and stuff so much, so i'll just leave it at that. no use in repeating every word i say.
with that said, might as well talk about a bit of stuff i've been doing as of lately. game collecting, book imports, other hobby stuff... and of course, talking about them. i kinda feel like i owe you guys a bit of newish content after several periods of stagnancy.
and yeah, with the mention of MAKAIPUNK in the title, expect a good deal of the stuff i'll be talking about to be related to Nippon Ichi game stuff.
and first off, i think i should mention that i managed to adjust the resolution on my camera when taking pictures. expect larger, more detailed photos of things here and in the future!

gen's daily life - no promises, no bets
so uh, kind of remembered something from last year, and... well, remember when i posted some new-year's-resolution-type things last December?
well, uh, looking back at it, seems i only got a tiny bit of those supposed goals done. did review another steam game a while back (said game being Undertale, of course), did get one chapter of the Disgaea manga readthrough up this year even though i haven't mustered up the motivation to snap shots of the other pages after chapter 2, did do a musing writeup on Hearthstone which i guess would classify as Warcraft-based things...
but yeah, outside of those three and probably some others i forgot, i haven't gotten too much done in terms of living up to any of those resolutions. i guess this is what happens when i expect too much out of myself despite the fact that it's hard for me to really get into writing about things.
well, i did a few other miscellaneous writeups like the BKPC review and my Anime Boston experience over the first half of the year, and then things just... kinda slowed down exponentially. i know i should stop excusing myself for leaving drafts unfinished and generally slacking on here, and the whole "i've been busy" excuse gets really old after a certain point, but that genuinely has been the case for the latter half of the year.
around summertime i got a PSP as an early birthday gift, so i spent most of my time customizing it and tinkering with homebrew things on it. pretty much got well over 2500 games slapped onto it as well, even if most of them are emulated retro titles. mostly spent autumn wrapping up things with the PSP and (admittedly) struggling to keep the site updated with actual content. eeeeeven if the only substantial things during that time were the Undertale review and a little writeup on my thoughts on the upcoming Disgaea PC.
also was considering doing a liveblog playthrough of Soul Nomad on here, though i haven't started it up yet. or touched any of my consoles in a while, for that matter.
with the holidays just around the corner, life's just gotten more busy for me. got a scanner/printer so i'm now able to get back to traditional pencil drawings, and i've been spending most of my time talking with my friends and getting gifts ready for them. i've also been frequenting another WoW private server and doing things on there, to the point where the admin asked me if i'd like to be part of the staff. so now i've been answering player tickets and shaping up my SQL knowledge so i can help with database stuff.
it's been a busy year in general, to the point where i've p much realized how much i haven't been living up to the goals i set for myself last year. this site is mostly a personal sort of endeavor, so compared to things like... idk, i guess completing video games, working on drawings, and finishing roleplays with my friends, it hasn't really been a major priority for me. i dunno if it's because of the lack of too many visitors on here or my own lack of motivation, but i'd have to say it's the latter, honestly; i haven't been doing too much vidya/drawing/rping this year either.
at the very least, one thing i'm p happy about getting done this year is expanding my video game collection and talking with my friends more. got the famous 6th-gen trio that is the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube (Wii, but it can run GC games, so), and i've even made a few new friends and started hanging out more with some older pals. plus with learning about SQL, i might get into learning some other programming languages as well in the coming year.
so while i haven't been able to do a lot of stuff i've been hoping to do and keep the site updated like i promised, i don't think this year's been a complete waste. especially with how well this month has went so far. c:
as far as new year resolutions go, i'm just going to focus on getting last year's actually done over the span of the next year. as well as generally just improving my skills in what i know. hopefully i can get at least half of the unfinished drafts done at some point.
not that i can 100% guarantee it, but it's a step up in keeping this place active, at least.
anyhow, have a wonderful holiday this week, and thank you for sticking around for so long despite the lack of activity here on KKGS. <3

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE
so uh, guess who's nearly done with setting up his game/ROM library on his computer and PSP.
additionally, guess who's going to try to get his ass in gear on getting this place going again now that said game-library-setting-up is almost finished.
eeeeeyup.
so yeah, i have quite a bit of catching up to do on getting this crap finished, though i'm likely going to be shelving some of the older article drafts from '14. despite this being my entire draft folder, i've been thinking about writing some other articles and game recommends and miscellaneous junk, including possibly doing a picture-and-text Let's Play of a PS2 game i've gotten my paws on recently. which may also be a MAKAIPUNK thing. and no, it's not Disgaea.
can't guarantee any of these will pop up super-quickly, but we'll see. workload isn't too bad now (granted most of it was sorting through ROM crap), so i should get something up this month, if not this week.
and uh... i'll see what i can do about getting another chapter of the Disgaea manga readthrough up at some point. .w.
anyhow, catch you all soon~ stay rad, everyone.

cfw for days
so uh. yeah, unexpected hiatus. or maybe expected, with how slow things have been going here. i ended up getting my psp a bit earlier than expected. which means that blogspot stuff maaaaaay be coming even more slowly than expected.
well, on the plus side, i may be able to review PSP gamestuff at some point if that's anything to look forward too. i don't think you have any idea how much i've been wanting to play Makai Kingdom Portable.
if anyone still wants to get in touch with me and listen to my ramblings, twitter and plurk are your best bets!

spring cleaning and other things
haven't done any major posts since a bit after the beginning of the month. still chugging along slowly on actual article work, namely since i've been doing a bit of cleanup and reorganizing on my computer, as well as preparation for twitter commission work so i can get some funds towards a Playstation Portable. alongside the PC reorganizing, i'm overhauling my emulator collection and getting some other games on here, so hopefully that gives me more eventual stuff to review. also got a pretty sizeable haul of PS2 games now, so i'll likely shoot for articles for them in the future once i get stuff off the backburner.
and of said stuff? well, while i can't say a MAKAIPUNK manga readthrough update is coming too soon, i'll likely do a different sort of feature for that segment. some other upcoming things of note are new STEAMPUNK reviews, a three-part feature on Crash Bandicoot kart racers, and even a look at a fanmade JoJo RPG!
so yeah, stick tight. at least one of these things will come next month.
oh, and while i'm at it, have one of my preview paintings i did for part of my eventual commission sheet. i don't think i put up any of my artwork on here yet, anyway.
see you soon, everyone!

tis the season for chilling (also nextyear musings)
and considering i rarely friggin update this blog with anything substantial, i've been doing a lot of that this month. and year. eh.
apologies for the lack of updates, and twice the apologies that posts like these seem to be more frequent than any of my other crap. i'm still working on getting the next MAKAIPUNK installation up, but i've been kinda stalling on it. kind of tricky taking snapshots while holding a book open. plus there's also the issue with not having much else to really discuss.
though, with recent things in my life brewing up (good things, don't worry), i might have more to bring when the new year comes than just nitpicking a manga about a video game about demons that also got an anime adaptation. ahem.
sit tight, folks. be sure to tell your friends. and probably your enemies.
in other unrelated news, LUFTRAUSERS is on sale on steam for six dollars until next year. oh yeah, and there's a trailer for the coming January update for Starbound. get hyped.

- Dinosaur Planet crap. been doing recordings of a Starfox Adventures LP that kiiiiiiiinda is related to this, but i've been wanting to do more talking about this cancelled gem of a game here since it's been a favorite topic of mine for quite some years. while i do run a shrineblog for DP on tumblr, i'll probably do some more wordier stuff here since blogspot's a better format for those types of things. history and introductory stuff and analysis and research and junk like that.
- more STEAMPUNK. with the steam holiday sale going on, no doubt people are stocking up on low-priced games for the winter. i'm pretty much content after blowing around $250 dollars on games last holiday sale, but i still wanna talk about steam gems people might not know of or don't appreciate as much. i'll likely be doing this with GOG games and other PC and DOS titles as well.
- PS2 recs. alongside other older consoles and handhelds and MAYBE arcade games. ordered a ps2 since i've been looking into it for a while, and it came in today. prob will be amassing a ps2 game library over the next year, so i'll prob review some of the lesser-known stuff or stuff i feel people should appreciate more. 'course i'll do other recs of games from other older consoles, and i'm looking into reviewing MAME arcade games as well.
- more MAKAIPUNK. am aware i've been dawdling on the Disgaea manga readthrough, but i'll be getting back to that shortly. been considering looking at other curious pieces of NIS merch such as some of the artbooks, light novels, drama cds, and other things of note that would bear mentioning (and i could probably get my hands on). hell, there's some chance i'll be reviewing some of the older NIS titles on PS2/PSP as well. we'll see how that fares, though.
- Warcraft stuff. alongside Legacy stuff (which finally released lately and my adventures in it have been pretty interesting so far), i'm thinking of doing some article stuff concerning older WoW musery as well as stuff concerning the way-older Warcraft RTS games. particularly the third one since the modding community for it is still pretty active to this day, and there's quite some interesting maps out there.
- fantasy and roleplay musings. speaking of musery, i'm generally a sucker for fantasy stuff and worldbuilding, and i'm surprised i don't blab about it more. also, tabletop rpg stuff. yeah, i should still look into actually doing that sort of deal.
- 80s/90s cartoon crap. the world needs to know how hilariously bad stuff like Captain N and Sonic Underground are. also, terrible movies. though i'm very likely not going to review Foodfight since i feel like everyone and their mom knows of it at this point. ah well.
- various other crap i forgot to mention. not like this blog goes by any specific theme outside of things i like, so probably more miscellaneous stuff will pop up in the coming year.
sit tight, folks. be sure to tell your friends. and probably your enemies.

blargh
i know i really should stop making posts like these, but i apologize for how slow the current article stuff i'm working on is going. Conker rec i'm still working on (set a deadline for it so hopefully i get more motivated to get it done), as is the Disgaea 1 manga readthrough and a little halloween bonus.
it's sort of half laziness, but mostly since i rarely ever get the motivation to do written stuff, even if it's about things i like. i'm more of a visual/hands-on person, so this kind of stuff takes time for me to get the motivation for.
i may open up a Patreon at some point as a bit of personal incentive to do more with this blog, but i'm not 100% sure on that yet. we'll see, though.
bless any of you bloglurkers who are patient enough to put up with the slow updates though. ;w;
oh uh, also put up a steam status section if you guys wanna check that out.

an entire month of nothing.
yeaaaaaaah, my apologies on not getting anything actually up in a while. article-writing bug hasn't struck me for a while, and stuff like working on artstuff and other irl matters have gotten in the way. if i hadn't mentioned it in the past: i do have ideas on what stuff to write about, but it's still kinda stuffery i need to look into, especially for things like media reviews/articles and stuff in that vein.
i'm fully aware that i've been dawdling with things and it's kind of a struggle to motivate myself into doing those things, but i'm at least trying.
if you guys want to keep in touch with me, i'm on twitter, tumblr, and plurk.
also, i've recently gotten a new tumblr for solely artstuff and whatever creative stuff i do. and yes, i am fully aware that it has a similar url to my contact hub. that probably wasn't a smart plan on my end.
eh. anyhow, hope ya'll are doing well. can't guarantee anything this month, but it's early in the month, so i'll see what i can do. =v=

site updates are for dweebs
so since i'm a complete dweeb, i added a donation button to the sidebar. still working on a page for the redbubble and society6 stores, though i should probably make some designs before i get that up.
also should get to writing some more on this blog. probably either going to do a writeup on a hilariously-dubbed anime or a cancelled n64 game with a cult following. either way, we'll see.

hello, folks!
after roughly two weeks of work, i've gotten this place up and running!
i've been meaning to get a blogspot up and running since last year, but posts went rather slow since i felt the old blog was too confined to a purpose (it was mostly a game review blog). hopefully this one goes out better since it'll be a bit more freeform so i can blog about whatever i wish. i will do some game reviews though, alongside other things!
mostly trying to migrate to here from tumblr as well; there are some good blogs on tumblr, don't get me wrong, but the toxic environment and faulty customization kind of turn me off from it. plus it doesn't really seem like a fitting place for more lengthy commentary-like things.
so yeah, long story short, hopefully i can get to do some more fun stuff here and share a bit of my interests with people. hope you all enjoy! expect some stuff coming up in the very near future!
